IRF's workshop in London was well received
The fifth Icelandic Responsible Fisheries Workshop was held at the Embassy of Iceland in London 21 September. It was cooperation of Icelandic Responsible Fisheries Foundation, Promote Iceland and the Embassy. The workshop was well received with participants comprising of suppliers, buyers and producers of Icelandic fish and fish products in the UK, the science community and other guests.
Ambassador Thórdur Aegir Óskarsson opened the workshop and welcomed the Icelandic Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, Sigurdur Ingi Johannsson, who discussed the science-based success of Icelandic fisheries.
Thorsteinn Sigurdsson, Head of Marine Resources Section of the Marine Research Institute, gave a talk on marine research and the status of fish stocks, while Dr Hrefna Karlsdottir, Project Manager at the Iceland Responsible Fisheries Foundation, gave an update on the IRFM certification programme. Moderator Kolbeinn Árnason, CEO of Iceland Fisheries, closed the workshop and conducted a short Q&A session.
Following the workshop, participants were invited to a luncheon at Texture Restaurant where Icelandic Michelin star chef Agnar Sverrisson prepared Icelandic seafood, and our honorary guest, Austin Mitchell, former MP of Great Grimsby, gave a talk.
